As New Mexico’s premier professional trade association, the New Mexico Association of REALTORS® proudly represents over 7,500 residential and commercial brokers throughout the state. With members active in every legislative district and connected to 14 local boards and associations, we champion the interests of property owners, our REALTOR® members, and the broader real estate market. Together, as NMAR, we are the voice for real estate in New Mexico.

2025 NMAR Legislative Policy Priorities

Housing Affordability, Availability, & Accessibility

NM REALTORS® encourage the expansion of housing inventory to meet demand and support the construction of affordable workforce housing for veterans, seniors, and vulnerable groups. NM REALTORS® oppose repealing the rent control prohibition and encourage legislation that boosts rental housing development without imposing rent control.

Property Tax Policy

NM REALTORS® support fair and transparent property tax assessments, ensuring that tax policies are equitable and predictable. NM REALTORS® stand against any transfer taxes, excise taxes, and/or stamp taxes imposed on the sale or transfer of real property.

Property Insurance

NM REALTORS® support a robust & financially solvent property insurance industry with a wide variety of carriers to provide consumer choice in the marketplace.

Property Crime

NM REALTORS® advocate for private property rights and support legislation which protects property and property owners from trespassing, vandalism, and theft. Communities thrive when people and property are safe.

Water & Natural Resources

NM REALTORS® support legislation that ensure the availability of water and natural resources meet the needs of New Mexico and its people.

Economic Development

NM REALTORS® support legislation that provides jobs and encourages investment. NM REALTORS® advance initiatives that support a healthy economy. NM REALTORS® support statewide broadband availability.

Weekly NMAR Legislative Bulletin

During the Legislative Session, the NMAR Legislative Committee meets weekly to carefully review and evaluate proposed legislation. Each bill is thoughtfully analyzed, and the committee determines whether to SUPPORT, OPPOSE, or MONITOR its progress.
